Just completed the Ableton Live: Producer course over a weekend. It was fantastic and exceeded my expectations. Simon is a great tutor, knows Ableton inside out and I was blown away by the stuff he taught us that I knew little about about. I came away inspired, with a lot of ideas and a great set of notes from the course. I couldn't recommend it highly enough!
  • Liam Smith - Tuesday, June 22, 2021
Just finished the producer course with Simon and was no surprise after having done the creator course already that it was brilliant.

Learned loads every week and had fun in the process, a lot of things he’s perfected himself through years of experience, you can’t go and find that stuff out. Well worth it!

Will be returning as soon as possible and am looking forward to it. Go and see him you’ll not look back.

My first experience of subSine | Academy was at the beginning of first lockdown after purchasing an online creators course with in-depth training on how to write and structure a track from scratch, start to finish.

Each Module was broke down into easy to follow short video tutorials and taught by Simon effortlessly to help me understand Ableton and how to use it properly.

From then I have just completed the producers course and will be joining the artists course later this year to progress further. If anyone is thinking of joining a music academy then don't hesitate. This is the one!

    Best decision I made.

If you're looking for somewhere to start out or continue learning music then this is the place to go!!

From as soon as you walk into subSine academy you can see how dedicated to music the place is. It can seem daunting starting a course doing something you've never done before but you'll realise straight away that this place is very welcoming and has a very relaxed but professional atmosphere.

The courses themselves are top class, Simon the tutor is very friendly and you can see his passion for music straight away.

I've personally done the creator and producers course and have seen a massive difference in my music from when I first started using Ableton.

Worth every penny spent and you will definitely get your money's worth when booking a course here.

I attended the Weekend Producer Course. Simon Stokes is both an incredibly adept musician and a fantastic tutor, making this course absolutely essential for anyone interested in taking their knowledge of Ableton and music production to the next level. Simon has a particular talent for taking quite complex topics and presenting them with an ease of understanding to the group, and has really helped me improve my understanding of Live’s inner workings.

Over the two-day course a huge volume of material was covered, but it always felt like there was time to explore tangents, questions and ideas from the group. Simon was able to give really useful advice on pretty much everything; complex sound design, field recording in sound design, live set-ups, correct microphone choice, working with and processing audio, click tracks for live bands – the list goes on. For me it’s his insider knowledge and wealth of musical experience that makes the course so valuable. I simply cannot recommend this highly enough!

For anyone looking for a personalised, comprehensive production course run by some of the best in the business, i highly recommend giving Simon and the team a shout!

Simon's 2-day Producer (Weekender) course is very well structured and provides invaluable information on methods and tools to use in Ableton that I believe can truly make a HUGE difference in any (aspiring or professional) electronic music producers ability and productions in their preferred genre. If, like me, you feel as if you've scrolled through every tutorial on youtube ever uploaded and you can't seem to fill in the gaps - get yourself down and Simon will fill them in for you. 5/5

This was my 3rd time at the studio and it certainly won’t be my last. From start to finish it was an absolute pleasure being there. Simon's knowledge in Ableton is second to none, as well as his knowledge and expertise in electronic music production in general.

The classes are taught in a friendly and engaging manner and nothing is too much hassle for him. I honestly can’t recommend it highly enough. With detailed and structured course notes and access to online tuition, every base is thoroughly covered.

I started out with no knowledge of Ableton at all and now I’m aiming to get tracks finished and sent out to labels. Anyone looking to further themselves in electronic music production needs to get signed up for a course asap.

I've just completed the Ableton Producer Weekender course at Shoogle with Simon Stokes providing expert tuition in a fun, relaxed and informal manner.

The course content is vast and with the course spread over 16 hours in two days, there is plenty to keep you on your toes.

Simons' ability as a teacher is second to none. His style is easy to follow, even for a novice like me.

I feel on the back of the Introducer course, my level has gone up significantly whereby I'm equipped with knowledge to produce decent material.

Of course, included with the course are detailed notes which you can use at home to really supplement and reinforce the in-class training. There is also an super active Facebook group where past attendees share a multitude of information, networking, and generally support each other, which in itself is a great help.

All that's left for me to say is.... What are you waiting for? Get yourself booked up and enjoy learning an excellentt program with an expert tutor guiding you through.
  • Myles Brady - Monday, April 1, 2019
I’ve done all the weekend courses and it’s the best thing I’ve done for progressing as a producer. I would have given up music production before I even started if I hadn’t of stumbled across these courses.

All the tutors are really helpful and knowledgeable so your learning from the best!

The course is really well structured and some really in depth course notes that are priceless for when you are at home and find you might have forgotten something.

If your thinking of doing a music production course don’t think about this one, just do it... take my word for it you won’t be disappointed:)

I've done the Introducer and Producer courses, and the knowledge and insights these courses have provided have been first rate. I've been converted to Ableton and have learnt a huge amount about music production in general. I thought I knew quite a lot about synthesis and sound engineering but Simon has opened my eyes, and ears, to a vast range of new possibilities and techniques. Course notes are excellent and teaching is done in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

For anyone with a passion for electronic music looking to make the step into production, you should check out the Soma Skool courses @ SUBSINE. The Introducer course covers all aspects of production using Ableton Live and teaches you how to create your own tracks from scratch, followed by the Producer course which covers more advanced production techniques and how to sync up hardware synths and drum machines as well as recording vocals and other instruments.

The classes have a great laid back atmosphere and are taught by doing theory and practical sessions, which I found great as you could get ideas down and ask questions while everything was fresh in mind. You also get excellent set's of comprehensive course notes which are very easy to follow and allow you to work away at home.

The courses are taught by Soma artist Simon Stokes. Simon has a great way of explaining things and breaking down the technical terminology and always takes the time to answer any questions you have, as well as sharing his knowledge and experiences as a producer. The class demo of his Petrichor live set was a personal highlight!

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Is this course suitable for beginners?

This course is aimed at those who have some prior experience with music production and Ableton Live. It focuses on advanced topics, so a basic understanding of the software is recommended.

How do the live online sessions work?

The live sessions are not just 2-hour lectures. Each week, new content will be introduced, and there will be plenty of opportunities to try things out during the session itself. The course is designed to be hands-on, with interactive elements where you can apply what you’re learning in real time. You’ll also have the chance to ask questions, get feedback, and engage with both the instructor and other participants. It’s a collaborative environment that ensures you’re not just listening but actively participating and developing your skills as the course progresses.

Can I get personal feedback on my work?

Yes, throughout the course you’ll have multiple opportunities to receive feedback. You can come along to informal weekly catch up sessions with Ana, the Associate Tutor, to get personalised guidance on your tracks and resolve any issues. These are available every week. During the live sessions, you can also join a breakout room with the instructor to troubleshoot any issues or get some more guidance. You’ll also have access to an online forum, where you can share your work with other participants and get feedback from both instructors and your peers. The course also wraps up with a listening session where everyone shares the music they’ve made, and you’ll receive constructive feedback from the entire group.

How much work do I need to put in?

Each week, you’ll be given a small fun challenge designed to help you practice what was covered during that session. These challenges will allow you to apply what you’ve learned and develop your skills further. While the live sessions are 2 hours, spending additional time outside of class working on these tasks will help reinforce the techniques. The course is structured to be hands-on, so regular practice between sessions is encouraged to get the most out of the experience.

What if I need to cancel?

If you need to cancel or reschedule your course, please email info@subsineacademy.com. Cancellations made up to 14 days after purchase will be refunded or rescheduled with no questions asked. After 14 days you are welcome to switch to a future course. We are a small, friendly, independent academy, and as such we always aim to be as flexible as we reasonably can so please just get in touch if you have a question about your course.

How many people are attending?

Our live online course is designed for an intimate group of up to 15 participants. This smaller class size ensures that each participant receives personalised attention and that there is enough space for interaction both among peers and with tutors.
