Stuart Brown is one of Scotland’s top jazz, session and touring drummers who specialises in using Ableton Live in live performance situations. His solo project, MNDMTH, combines hybrid electro-acoustic drumming with real time triggered and audio-reactive visuals to creative live multimedia performances. 

This masterclass will focus on ways of using Ableton Live in real time live performance. Stuart breaks away from the standard Ableton approach, performing with no pre-recorded tracks, clips or loops, using his hybrid drum kit as a multi-timbral audio-visual performance tool.

He will demonstrate and share some of the techniques and custom Ableton racks and Max for Live devices he uses and the applications these could have for drummers, instrumentalists and producers alike, both in live performance and in the creative writing/recording process.

This masterclass will primarily focus on audio but will also touch briefly on integrating visuals with Ableton Live. There will be a deeper dive in to live visuals in a future workshop for those who would like to dig deeper into that domain.
