Frequently Asked Questions

I'm a total beginner - which course should I choose?

Our Ableton Live: Creator courses are designed for complete beginners. That is, you don’t need ANY previous experience with music production or playing an instrument to attend either the online or studio courses.

I've used other music software, which course is for me?

If you’d like to learn the ins and outs of Ableton Live, the Creator course is for you. It covers all the most important features of the software used to put together a full track.

You could consider the Weekend intensive version of the course if you’d like to get up and running quickly.

What's the minimum age for studio courses?

Whilst we don’t have a strict minimum age, we’d advise 17 as the minimum age for any of our studio courses.

Our courses generally have a very wide age range and we welcome people of all ages to the studio – please don’t be put off if you think you’re too old, this isn’t possible!

How much work do I need to put in?

Music production is all about practice. The more time you spend working on your own the quicker you’ll get to grips with the software. Each week there is an assignment which will help you get familiar with the topics covered in class – you should look to spend a bare minimum of 2 hours per week working on these.

However, it’s the best hobby you can possibly have and you might find yourself sacrificing pub time to make music instead..!

Do I get any educational discounts?

When studying with us you get a letter which entitles you to educational discounts on loads of software, including:

– 40% off Ableton Live
– 50% off plugins from companies like Fabfilter, iZotope
– 10% off at Rubadub in Glasgow

…and loads more!

Which version of Ableton Live do I need for the Creator course?

The demo version of Ableton Live lasts for 30 days and is completely unrestricted so this will allow you to get up and running with the software without paying a penny! Simply install it right before the course starts – there is a link to the right of this page.

If possible, you should look at buying the Ableton Live Suite version of the software – when you study a course with us you can get 40% off by buying the Educational version of the software which is exactly the same as the regular version. The Suite version will last you for life.

The Standard or Intro versions of Ableton Live can also be used, with an added upgrade as explained in the course details.

What if I need to cancel my booking?

If you need to cancel or reschedule your course, please get in touch using the contact form below or on info[@]subsineacademy.com.

Cancellations made up to 14 days after purchase will be refunded or rescheduled with no questions asked. After 14 days you are welcome to switch to a future course.

If your course begins within the next 14 days and you’re looking to cancel or switch to a future course, we will try to get you on a future course if there are spaces left before it starts. Please note that we cannot guarantee you a space though, as one of the best things about studying with us is that we have small class sizes  – these fill up quickly!

We are a small, friendly, independent academy, and as such we always aim to be as flexible as we reasonably can. Please simply get in touch if you have a question about your course.
